This kalan masala is a very unusual type of snack that is available on the road sides. Rottu kadai Kalan masala are served piping hot with a good drizzle of chopped onion and coriander leaves. Sometimes crushed cornflakes are also added for a nice crunch. I have used half of Kalan and half of cabbage. Actually for strret-style food they use all cabbage or with a small amount of mushrooms. To bring down the cost they use little mushrooms in roadside shops. It is said that it originated from the streetsides of Coimbatore. But now it has become famous and available at near by

thallluvandi kadai too. Added onions gives all the crunch and texture to this whole dish. Generally I don’t like this roadside mushrooms to be as thick masala. It should always be on the thinner side. This also can be served as a side dish for chappathi and poori or as a snack served piping hot. Do try this rottu kadai Kalan masala at your comfort of your home and enjoy the deliciousness.
