This masala bread upma recipe is an easy bachelor breakfast that can be done in no time. Its a excellent beginner recipe that anyone can do. Of-course can be had as a snack or even for a dinner. I prefer salt bread for making this bread masala and prefer to have it little dry with little masala coated. Toast the bread then make this upma for nice texture and taste. Toasting is the best way to do it with less oil but many people I have seen deep fry the bread and make this bread masala. Of-course it will be tasty. Its always not needed to have it that way so you

can simply toast in a toaster or a tava. Even though its a common dish many people who don’t know about this and yet to try this will have an idea to make this dish easily. Spices added can be less or more according to your preference. I have used both ghee and oil for more flavour and taste. But, you can avoid ghee and do it with oil alone. Do try this dish and enjoy.

INGREDIENTS:

Bread slices(salt) – 8 slices
Chopped onion – 1/2 cup
Chopped tomatoes – 1/4 cup
Ginger garlic and
green chilli paste – 3 tsp
Hing/asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
Kashmiri chilli powder – 1-2 tsp
Salt to taste
Garam masala powder – 11/2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Some curry leaves
Oil – 2-3 tsp+1tbsp for toasting bread
Ghee 1 tbsp+1tsp at end
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Some chopped coriander

METHOD:

1.Take bread slices toast them in tava till golden on both sides by adding little oil.
2.Then cut them to square chunks and keep ready.
3.Heat a kadai with oil and ghee add mustard to splutter.

4.Then add curry leaves, onions.
5.Let it become golden add in garlic, ginger and green chilli paste and saute.
6.When raw smell goes off add spices chillipowder,salt,turmeric powder and garam masala and stir well.

7.Now add tomatoes when it becomes little mushy add water and let it boil.
8.Check for salt and add more if needed.
9.Let it boil for some time now add chopped bread slices stir well so that all masala gets well coated.
10.Sprinkle some coriander leaves and a dollop of ghee switch off.
11.Serve hot.
