It was a small get-together function held at my moms place and we simply ordered morning tiffin from the near by famous cafe.As we had work to do like arranging for the pooja and to receive guests had no time to prepare breakfast.This particular cafe was famous for its landmark sambar idli so we ordered it.Some packs of kichadi was also ordered.Rava kichadi was a tempting affair that I just had it twice I mean two parcels.Always love this south indian rava kichadi recipe more than rava upma .Whatever restaurant I go I just order it of-course the taste was too bad in some places.I love to have it hot I find adding ghee and lemon juice at last gives all the flavour and distinctiveness to this wonderful dish.Always like to add little grated ginger for flavour and aroma.If you are using tangy tomatoes then don’t use lemon juice.Both the onions and tomatoes should be finely chopped for this rava kichadi.This south indian rava kichidi recipe is a definite tasty great morning breakfast dish.It is very fast and easy to do.Now lets make this south indian rava kichadi recipe.
south indian rava kichadi recipe /sooji/semolina kichidi
INGREDIENTS:
Rava/sooji/semolina – 1 cup
Chopped onions – 2 medium onions(finely)
Chopped tomatoes – 2 tomatoes(finely)
Ginger grated – 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Green chillies – 2(chopped)
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Oil – 1 tbsp
Ghee – 2-3 tbsp(to add finely)
Black gram and bengal gram dal – 1/2+1/2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tbsp
Some curry leaves
Fresh green peas – 1/4 cup
Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp,cashews – some(broken)
3 cups water
METHOD:
1.Keep ready with all the ingredients.
2.Keep a kadai add oil and when it heats up add mustard to splutter.
3.Then add dals,curry leaves,green chillies and cashews.
4.Let it change colour,add grated ginger too along with it.
5.Inbetween boil water in a pan,let it come to rolling boil.
6.Add onions and saute till transparent.
7.Add tomatoes and turmeric powder,required salt for kichadi as a whole.
8.Add peas to it sprinkle little water close for 1 minute.
9.Open lid add rava and mix well.
10.To this add boiling water and stir well.
11.Now sim the flame.
12.Check for salt if necessary add it.
13.Close the lid and leave it for 4-5 minutes.
14.Open add lemon juice mix well.
15.Switch off add ghee and serve hot with coconut chutney.

Notes
No need to roast rava before adding as it is already roasted.
