south indian rava kichadi recipe /sooji/semolina kichidi

Ingredients
  

  • Rava/sooji/semolina - 1 cup
  • Chopped onions - 2 medium onions finely
  • Chopped tomatoes - 2 tomatoes finely
  • Ginger grated - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Green chillies - 2 chopped
  • Cashews - some
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Ghee - 2-3 tbsp to add finely
  • Black gram and bengal gram dal - 1/2+1/2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Some curry leaves
  • Fresh green peas - 1/4 cup
  • Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp
  • 3 cups water

Method
 

  1. Keep ready with all the ingredients.
  2. Keep a kadai add oil and when it heats up add mustard to splutter.
  3. Then add dals,curry leaves,green chillies and cashews.
  4. Let it change colour,add grated ginger too along with it.
  5. Inbetween boil water in a pan,let it come to rolling boil.
  6. Add onions and saute till transparent.
  7. Add tomatoes and turmeric powder required salt for kichadi as a whole.
  8. Add peas to it sprinkle little water close for 1 minute.
  9. Open lid add rava and mix well.
  10. To this add boiling water and stir well.
  11. Now sim the flame.
  12. Check for salt if necessary add it.
  13. Close the lid and leave it for 4-5 minutes.
  14. Open add lemon juice mix well.
  15. Switch off add ghee and serve hot with coconut chutney.

Notes

Adding cashew-nuts is optional.
No need to roast rava before adding as it is already roasted.
