This Arisi paruppu sadam recipe is a most common one pot lunch that is nutritious and delicious. That too if done in pressure cooker its not only easy but it gives a soulful satisfaction when you are craving for something comforting. Some use even moong dal or combination of these toor and moong dal. Here I have used toor dal alone and done this rice. In kannada we call it as Akkinbele koolu which means dal rice. Its an excellent variety rice option lunch box recipe. I love to have it hot with pappadam and any pickle of choice. Drizzling some more ghee at the end will bring out all the flavours in this dal-rice. This is my Amma’s favourite lunch as its simple,demanding
and flavourful. And also this is Salem style of dal rice recipe that amma used to make all the time. I add little more water so that we get a nice gooey hot sadam. If you like it to be little less gooey then reduce the water. Do try this Arisi paruppu sadam recipe if you haven’t done before.

Arisi paruppu sadam recipe / instant dal rice for lunch in pressure cooker
INGREDIENTS:
Parboiled rice/puzhungal arisi – 1 cup(200 ml cup)
Toor dal – 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp
Salt as per need
Chilli powder/sambar powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Some curry leaves
Green chillies – 2
Roughly chopped tomatoes – 2-3(medium)
Small onions – 1 fist full(whole)
Garlic cloves – 8-10
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin/seeragam – 1/2 tsp
Oil+ghee – 2-3 tbsp
Asafoetida – 1/2 tsp
Water – 43/4 cups
Some more ghee to add at the end(optional)
Some chopped coriander
METHOD:
1.Wash both dal and rice together and soak for 20 minutes.
2.In a pressure cooker add oil+ghee to heat up.
3.Add mustard to splutter with cumin.
4.Put in garlic cloves, onions, green chillies.
5.Add chilli & turmeric powder ,curry leaves saute.Add tomatoes mix,soaked dal-rice mixture with needed salt.
6.Add water (4 3/4 cups)and let it boil.
7.Close the cooker with lid let it whistle for 3-4 times.
8.Switch off and when pressure subsides open cooker.
9.Mix it by mashing at this stage you can add some more ghee.
10.Add some chopped coriander.
11.Serve hot with pappad&pickle.

Notes
- You can use moong dal instead of toor dal.
- Add either chilli powder or sambar powder.
- I have used puzhungal arisi even you can use pacharisi.
