short breadShortbread is a type of cookie or biscuit and is a great tea time snack . These short breads have bready nature with crumbly texture.The basicĀ  shortbread recipe contains only three ingredients sugar,flour and butter using this many variations can be made . Here I have added apple and khova for the dough as a variation.Am not that much familiar with short breads before and I had just heard the word through books and media’s , so I was in an urgeĀ  learning more about it and ready for the research .

short breadshort breadFinally I learnt the basic recipe of making short bread.Now I have my own version of making short breads which I have shared below.Short breads are not crispy and it is basically white in nature.If we do not have khova we can use milk powder or condensed milk.Powdered or castor sugar is used and granulated is not used.Can check out my homemade khoa or khova recipe here and prepare your own khova . There is no need to add baking powder for making this soft and buttery shortbread.The dough mixture is rested for half an hour before rolling.I have used mixed fruit jam for topping ,but any suitable jam can be used.I have used pistachio nut powder both in the dough and for the topping.

Ingredients

  • Apple grated - 1 1/2 tbsp
  • All purpose flour - 11/2 cup
  • Powdered sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Butter - 3/4 cup
  • Homemade Khova or khoa - 1 tbsp
  • Powdered pistachio - 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla essence - 4 drops
  • For topping:
  • Mixed fruit jam
  • Pistachio powdered for dusting over.

Instructions

  1. Add all the wet ingredients in a bowl and mix.
  2. Then add all purpose flour and form a dough.
  3. Cover it.
  4. Rest the mixture for 1/2 hour in fridge.
  5. Set the oven tray with butter paper and keep ready.
  6. When we are set to roll preheat the oven for 10 minutes
  7. Can roll by hand or roll with a rolling pin and cut to desired shapes.
  8. I have shaped it by hand and made a small dent in the middle .
  9. sprinkle pistachio in circles.
  10. pipe in the jam.
  11. Bake for 7-8 minutes and its ready.

Notes

The specialty of this short bread is that it can be easily rolled and cut to desired shapes. The dough is sticky can dust some flour to avoid it. Preheating is important. sugar added must be powdered. Sprinkling pistachio is optional.
