If you are a seafood lover then this prawn masala is a must try. Its a perfectly delicious with idli’s, dosa’s and rice. Mainly cooking time for the prawns is most important. If you cook it for long it becomes hard and rubbery. For medium sized prawns 3-4 minutes is enough and for larger ones it takes about 7-8 minutes.Mostly for pepper based dishes that too non-vegetarian dishes I use iron pan. It gives all the flavour and more than that you get that dark colour which gives a perfect feel to this

INGREDIENTS:

Prawns/eral (medium) – 250 gms
Small onions – 1/2 cup
Some curry leaves
Ginger garlic paste – 2-3 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 11/2 tbsp
Chilli powder – 2 tbsp
Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp
Needed salt
Oil – 1/4 cup,mustard seeds  – 1 tsp
Pepper powder – 2 tbsp
Some chopped coriander

 

METHOD:

1.Clean and wash prawn keep ready.
2.In a pan add oil and mustard to splutter with finely minced curry leaves and onion.
3.Leave it to become golden.
4.Add ginger garlic paste and sauté well to cook.

5.When rawness goes off add turmeric, coriander and chilli powder with garam masala powder.
6.Saute well so that rawness of the spices goes away.
7.Put in the prawns add needed salt for the gravy stir in for few seconds.
8.Add water so that the prawns get immersed and let it boil and cook.

9.At one stage oil oozes and the consistency becomes semi gravy .
10.Now add pepper powder switch off the flame and stir in well.
11.Add some chopped coriander and serve.

Notes

  • For medium sized prawns 3-4 minutes is enough and for larger ones it takes about 7-8 minutes.
  • You can skip adding curry leaves with onions.
  • I have used small onions for flavour and taste you can use regular big onions.
  • Clean prawn before cooking the prawns that very important.
