tomato dal andhra style /tomato pappu
In India and down South here dal in any form any time any day is so vital that every first serving for hot rice will be with some kind of heart warming dal with good dollop of ghee in it.I always admire Andhra cuisine for its sharp flavours and you may be knowing me as a sweet mad person till now but not to mention am a spice loving person too.Paruppu thanni/dal pani is the first introductory food that is given to a baby before introducing solid foods because these dals contains loads of protein and dietary fibres and is easy for a baby to digest. Dals are one magical ingredient that can assimilate various flavours like we can add greens, any vegetable or simply like onions and tomatoes.Exactly!this is one such simple dal that am making called Andhra pappu (tomato dal andhra style) made with tomatoes and onions with a good dash of chopped ginger and garlic.Ghee is a specialty addition in most of the Andhra cooking but we can always substitute with any oil.I prefer only to use ghee for its first-rated flavour and aroma. Its a very simple recipe that even a beginner can easily do it in no time.
