cabbage kootu with moong dal /muttaikos(e)kootu

Ingredients
  

  • Cabbage/muttaikos - 1 cup grated or cut,white
  • Split yellow moong dal - 1 cup
  • Coconut oil - 1-2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dried red chillies - 2-3
  • Curry leaves - some
  • Salt to taste

To grind:

  • Cumin seeds - 2tsp
  • Greenchillies - 1-2
  • Rice - 2tsp soaked
  • Coconut - 1/4 cup grated

Instructions
 

  • First pressure cook dhal and keep.
  • Add the grated vegetable to moong dhal and bring to boil by adding salt.
  • Let it boil till the veggie is cooked.
  • In-between grind the ingredients given in"to grind"to a paste.
  • Add this to dhal mix and boil it for 3-4 minutes and switch off.
  • Keep a kadai add coconut oil add mustard seeds when it splutters add red chillies(broken)curry leaves.
  • Add it to kootu and mix.

Notes

I have added grated cabbage for quick cooking but usually they add cut cabbages.
Either way you can do if you donot like adding grated one.
Adding cococnut oil gives overall flavour to the dish.
I have not added turmeric powder but you can add if you wish.
After adding the ground mixture don't boil the kootu too long.
