Drumstick leaves have an indigenous store of vibrant health with loads of medicinal value in it .On the whole each part of this tree is very useful and most habitual food in South Indian cooking . I came to know from a book that a special kind of oil made from the mature seeds of the tree are used both in cooking and as a cosmetic . It is a customary food for we South Indians as we make variety of dishes from it.Murangai kootu, sambar, soup, porial and adai are some of the usual recipes that are prepared. When trying this recipe for drumstick soup I thought of doing it little more different that it will be more attractive and beneficial for my kids.They totally enjoyed the recipe for drumstick soup and asked for more and I was totally satisfied with the dish . I have added cooked corn to the soup as a twist which enhances the wholesome goodness of murungai leaves .These soup is made in different ways but I have tried it in my own way and am sure that you too will love it when you make it.
Recipe for drumstick soup/murungai ellai soup
INGREDIENT:
Drumstick leaves(murungai keerai) – 1/4 cup
Corn(sweet corn boiled) – 3/4 cup
Salt as per taste
sugar – 1 1/2 tsp
Corn flour – 1 3/4tblsp(make a paste with water)
Butter – 11/2 tbsp
Pepper powder- 11/2 tsp
Fresh cream – 2 tbsp
METHOD:
1.Blend corn and leaves mixture lightly.(coarsely)
2.Add butter to a pan.
3.Add the ground mixture and saute for 3 minutes.
4.Now add sugar then corn flour mixture and salt as needed.
5.Then let it boil for 4 -5 minutes.
6.After that add cream and switch off the stove.
7.At last add pepper powder and serve.

Notes
Saute the mixture in butter nicely to remove rawness from the leaves.
It is great recipe for kids who hate drumstick leaves.
