Every one will know that having this nattu kozhi soup will give some relief from cold ,cough and soothing effect to the throat. Here getting a nice free range chicken is a challenge as they sell the farm grown chicken as organic chicken. But ,still we get good promising chicken which makes a wide difference in taste and flavour. This soup is just a soup to have it as it is when hot and I fear it will not make up with rice.This country chicken soup recipe has no fancy ingredients to put in but this hot soup is so comforting and tasty. Medicinal properties are more in this country chicken than the ordinary chicken so its best to make soup with this nattu kozhi for
more benefits. I have it made little bland without any chilli powder but made it peppery suitable for cold to have calming effect on the throat. If you like add more chilli powder and even curry powder to make the soup more spicy and interesting. I wanted more like a soup so this was my go recipe of making this country chicken soup. Do make this soup for sure and serve hot.
country chicken soup recipe / Nattu kozhi soup for cold
INGREDIENTS:
Nattu kozhi /Country chicken – 150 gms
Gingelly oil/Nallenai – 2 tbsp
Rock salt/kallupu – as required
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Crushed garlic and ginger – 11/2 tbsp
Crushed onion(small) -one handful
Tomato (chopped) – 1
For soup powder:
Seeragam/jeera – 1 tsp
Sombu /fennel seeds – 1 tsp
Pepper – 2 tsp
Water – 500 ml
Some chopped coriander
Some pepper powder
METHOD:
1.Take a pressure cooker add gingelly oil when it heats up add chicken pieces and stir.
2.Add rock salt as needed then turmeric powder and sauté well.
3.Add in ginger garlic crushed followed by smashed small onions and saute.
4.Now add sliced tomatoes and stir.
5.Grind jeera, pepper and sambu to a coarse powder and add it to the mixture and stir well.
6.Add water and let it boil add some chopped coriander.
7.Close the pressure cooker and put weight and let it leave many whistles switch off stove.
8.When pressure subsides open and bring it to boil add more chopped coriander and more pepper powder and let it boil for some time and switch off.
9.Serve hot.

Notes
- Adding more pepper can be limited its your own choice.
- If you like add chilli powder even some garam masala for more spicy soup.
- The chicken should be cooked well so leave for many whistles in the cooker.
- Country chicken usually takes some time to cook.
