This chilli idli recipe is a Indo- Chinese fusion that transforms steamed idlis to a different avatar. Indo Chinese fusion dishes always becomes a way of life that people become too crazy and crave more for this type of food. Its quite amazing that you can turn the left over idlis to a tasty street style snack. Sure kids are going to love this after making it. Left over idlis are just not a waste any more. After tasting this you will be making more(steam) idlis extra. so that you can make this chilli idlis as evening snacks. The idlis are fried nicely crisp and if its soggy then this whole dish will loose its character. Oil to be fried

chilli idli recipe / how to make chilli idli(Indo Chinese)should be fuming hot so that idlis don’t absorb oil. Use different coloured capsicum if you have other than green like red and yellow. Serve it just as snack or make it a side dish if you are serving it with chapatti.I have made it more dry with little sauce but you can make more saucy if you like. INGREDIENTS:

Idlis – 2(cut into cubes)
Oil – 11/2 tbsp
Cubed onions – 1(big)
Cubed capsicum – 1
Garlic(chopped) – 1 tsp
Chopped ginger – 1 tsp
Chopped green chilli – 1 tsp
Salt – 1/2 tsp or as per taste
Sugar – 1/2 tsp
Tomato ketchup – 1 tbsp
Vinegar – 3/4 tsp
Soya sauce – 1/2 tbsp
Some chopped coriander or spring onions
Oil for frying Idlis

METHOD:

1.Cut idlis into cubes keep a kadai with oil when its nicely hot fry idlis golden take out in a tissue and keep ready.
2.Make a slurry with cornflour and water keep ready.

3.Now in the same pan add 11/2 tbsp of oil when its nicely hot add cubed onions and in seconds add capsicum fry for a minute.
4.Now add chopped garlic, ginger and green chillies saute well.
5.Then tomato ketchup soya sauce.
6.Add chilli powder,salt and sugar.

7.Stir well add vinegar.
8.Pour the dissolved slurry when it thickens add fried idlis.
9.Give a nice stir till all contents coats well.
10.Garnish with some spring onions or chopped coriander.
11.Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can make this idlis little saucy or dry as you like it.
  • If you have spring onions use them for garnish.
  • If you have different coloured capsicum like red yellow it will be eye-catching.
  • Fry idlis nicely golden and fry them in very hot oil otherwise it will absorb lots of oil.
