Roasting the aval well is the thing you should consider when making otherwise the taste and texture will be totally spoiled.
I have used thick aval but you can use red aval. Adding milk is optional it adds & enhances the taste of the pongal. Add required ghee needed for this sweet not at all less. Do try this wonderful Aval sankkarai pongal this time and enjoy.

INGREDIENTS:
Aval/poha – 1 cup
Moong dal/pasiparuppu – 1/4 cup
Vellam/jaggery(powdered) – 1 cup
Milk – 1/2 cup
&water for Aval – 11/2 cup
Water for jaggery – 1/2 cup
Cashews & drygrapes- some
Cardamom powder – 11/2 tsp
Ghee – 3 tbsp +1 tsp
METHOD:
1.Add ghee to a pressure cooker add washed moong dal roast lightly add 1 cup water and pressure cook keep.
2.First take aval in sieve and shake well to remove any dust or impurities keep ready.
3.In a pan add jaggery with 1/2 cup water let it boil and dissolve filter and keep ready.
4.Take another pan with ghee add chopped nuts to become golden then dry grapes to puff up take out and keep ready.
5.To the same ghee roast aval till golden then add water & milk mixture close lid and cook till soft.
6.When cooked open and mash well.
7.Add cooked dal and combine.
8.Now add jaggery water and let it boil well to become thick.
9.Add roasted nut& dry grapes, cardamom powder mix.
10.Add little ghee and mix.
11.Keep it little thin while switching off as it will thicken while cooling.
12.This easy aval pongal is all ready to be served.
