quick easy sambar sadam recipe / easy sambar rice

Ingredients
  

  • Parboiled rice /puzhungal arisi - 1cup

  • salt to taste
  • Toor dal /thuvaram paruppu - 1/2 cup

  • Oil - 1 tbsp

  • Mustard seeds/kadugu - 1 tsp

  • Some curry leaves
  • Dried red chillies/kaindha milaga - 3-4

  • Vendhayam/fenugreek - 1/2 tsp

  • Small onions chopped - 1/2 cup

  • Tomatoes/thakali - 2(finely minced)

  • Asafoetida/hing - 1/2 tsp

  • Sambar podi - 2 tbsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp

  • Tamarind extract - from one small lemon sized ball

  • Ghee - 2 tbsp

  • Some chopped coriander

Instructions
 

  • Soak rice and cook with some extra water than usual till mushy and keep ready.
    2,Cook dal separately and keep ready.
    3.Take a Heavy cooker base add oil add mustard to splutter.
    4.Now put some curry leaves.
    5.Add some broken redchillies,hing and fenugreek.
    6.Then small onions and saute for sometime add tomatoes.
    7.When cooked add sambar powder and turmeric powder saute well.
    8.Add cooked dal when it boils add tamarind extract should boil till rawness goes off.
    9.At this stage add needed salt and if needed some water to boil.
    10.Add mashed rice stir well without lumps finally add ghee and some chopped coriander.
    11.Serve hot with vadagam or with a pickle.

Notes

Adjust the sadam consistency according to your likings.
I have not added any veggies you can add drumsticks, carrot, beans or any thing apt.
Use any sambar podi you generally use for this recipe.
I have used parboiled rice you can use any rice of your choice even millets.
Adding water to rice is as per the rice quality it depends.
Ghee is added at last enhances the flavour of the whole dish.
