banana flower vadai recipe /vazhaipoo vadai /valaipoo paruppu vadai

Ingredients
  

  • Split peas/pattani paruppu - 1/2 cup
  • Bengal gram dal/kadala paruppu - 1/2 cup
  • Banana flower/vazhaipoo - cleaned and chopped - 11/4 cup
  • Ginger 3/4 inch piece
  • Salt to taste
  • Dried red chillies/vara milagai - 3 or as per need
  • Some curry leaves
  • Some chopped coriander
  • Onions chopped finely - 1/2 cup have used small onions
  • Fennelseed/sombu powder - 3/4 tsp
  • Oil to fry

Instructions
 

  • First clean banana flower by removing the stick like part and a transparent covering ,then chop the flowers and put in buttermilk water mixture till use.
  • In-between soak both dals with chillies for 1 hour.
  • Now strain dal with chillies add ginger,salt,curry leaves and sombu powder.
  • Grind very coarsely without adding any water.
  • Now transfer to a bowl add chopped onions,chopped coriander and chopped flower(squeeze out from buttermilk water).
  • Mix and check for salt if any add,then make balls of desired size and press to disc shaped vadai’s.
  • In-between heat oil in a kadai when its hot add shaped vadai fry till golden and take out in a tissue.

Notes

For the grinding part it should be coarse and if you need you can add some rice flour for more crunch.
Instead of red chillies you can use even green chillies.
Adjust the flame ,cook in medium till golden.
