south indian rava kichadi recipe /sooji/semolina kichidi

Ingredients
  

  • Rava/sooji/semolina - 1 cup
  • Chopped onions - 2 medium onions finely
  • Chopped tomatoes - 2 tomatoes finely
  • Ginger grated - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Green chillies - 2 chopped
  • Cashews - some
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Ghee - 2-3 tbsp to add finely
  • Black gram and bengal gram dal - 1/2+1/2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Some curry leaves
  • Fresh green peas - 1/4 cup
  • Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp
  • 3 cups water

Instructions
 

  • Keep ready with all the ingredients.
  • Keep a kadai add oil and when it heats up add mustard to splutter.
  • Then add dals,curry leaves,green chillies and cashews.
  • Let it change colour,add grated ginger too along with it.
  • Inbetween boil water in a pan,let it come to rolling boil.
  • Add onions and saute till transparent.
  • Add tomatoes and turmeric powder required salt for kichadi as a whole.
  • Add peas to it sprinkle little water close for 1 minute.
  • Open lid add rava and mix well.
  • To this add boiling water and stir well.
  • Now sim the flame.
  • Check for salt if necessary add it.
  • Close the lid and leave it for 4-5 minutes.
  • Open add lemon juice mix well.
  • Switch off add ghee and serve hot with coconut chutney.

Notes

Adding cashew-nuts is optional.
No need to roast rava before adding as it is already roasted.
