This thengai thogayal recipe is one such easy dish when we decide to keep our lunch menu simple in all our hectic working days. Its a traditional recipe done commonly in all of our South Indian homes frequently. In our home we make it little different. Means that we always add green chillies instead of red chillies which gives a different take to this wonderful dish. In the same way we always add a bit of vadagam and grind. Just try adding vadagam definitely you will love the flavour and taste. At all times I never miss to add this vadagam and we call it as badaga in our kannada language. We call it as
thenkai paruppu. Adding urad dal gives a nice nuttiness and flavour to this dish. The dals should be fried golden to get a nice tasting thengai thogayal recipe. Always use small onions for that best taste. Coconut need not be roasted nicely just put all together and make a paste. Don’t grind this thovayal fine it can be little bit coarse. But some will like to be smooth in whatever way you do it just tastes perfect. Each ingredient to be roasted should be done perfectly to get a nice soul full dish every time. Being simple does not means to compromise in taste its too good when served with hot rice with a dollop of ghee its just heavenly.

INGREDIENTS;
Grated coconut – 3/4 cup
Small onions – a hand full
Green chillies – 2-3
Urad dal – 2 tbsp
Bengal gram dal – 1tbsp
Salt as per need
Cumin – 11/2 tsp
Pepper- 1 tbsp
Coriander seeds – 3-4 tsp
Vadagam – a small chunk
Oil – 1 tbsp
METHOD:
1.Take a kadai add oil then add urad dal, channa dal and onions until the dal becomes golden.
2.Then add coriander seeds, pepper, cumin and fry nicely.
3.Put in the green chillies vadagam and lastly the coconut stir in nicely for a second.
4.Switch off the stove add salt and let it cool.
5.Transfer to a mixer jar grind it thick by adding water.
6.The thogayal should be thick mix with hot rice with a dollop of ghee and enjoy.

Notes
Every thing should be salted well for a nice thogayal.
Adding vadagam can be skipped but adding it gives a special flavour.
Add a dollop of ghee when mixing with rice.
