Making my little one to dress up like Krishna and dipping those cute little legs into rice flour water mixture,making printable paadams (footprints are put from the entrance till the pooja room) on the floor are the most valuable memories of my life and I will have an evergreen call in my mind about those pleasurable moments.Janmashtami signifies welcoming lord krishna to our homes where milk,butter,ghee are the most wanted eatables of little krishna.Gokulashtami is incomplete without making vella seedai/sweet cheedai as neivaidyam of-course along with many other varieties of sweets and snacks.The Rice flour used should be of good quality whether its store-bought orย home-made and while frying the flour don’t make it to change its colour if it just heats up nicely that itself is enough.Urad dhal should be roasted golden and powdered finely and if you wish to sieve the urad dhal flour you can but here as I have finely powdered I have added as such,but the rice flour should be sieved.The dough made should be neither too hard or loose should be pliable and soft.please check out my uppu seedai recipe that has been already posted in my blog.
sweet cheedai recipe (vella seedai)
INGREDIENTS:
Rice flour – 1 cup
Urad dhal/black gram – 11/4 tsp(powder)
Powdered jaggery – 1 cup
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
White sesame seeds/vellai ellu – 1 tbsp
Grated or coconut chunks – 1tbsp
Water – 1 cup,ghee – 1/2 -3/4 tsp
METHOD:
1.Add one cup of water and jaggery,bring to boil.
2.When it dissolves filter and let it cool.
3.Sieve Rice flour and take it in a bowl.
4.Fry sesame seeds,coconut scrapping separately and add to rice flour.
5.Fry urad dhal till golden and grind smoothly and add 11/4 tsp of flour to the bowl mixture.
6.Add butter,cardamom powder to the flour.
7.Now add the jaggery water and make a doughย and leave for 10 minutes.
8.Make balls.
9.Heat kadai with oil.when it heats up fry seedai at medium flame and when goldenย take out in a tissue.
10.Store in airtight container.

- Fry urad dhal till golden and grind smoothly and add 11/4 tsp of flour to the bowl mixture.
- Add butter,cardamom powder to the flour.
- Now add the jaggery water and make a dough and leave for 10 minutes.
- Make balls.
- heat kadai with oil.when it heats up fry seedai at medium flame and when golden switch off take out in a tissue.
- Store in airtight container.
Notes
Fry seedai in medium flame or else the insides will not cook properly.
The dough should be neither too hard or loose should be pliable.
For one cup of water one cup of powdered jaggery will be a fit.
