Usually the rhizome of the plant is offered to sun god during pongal festival. This turmeric has similar properties like saffron when it comes to color. As per reports India is the largest producer of turmeric than any other country in the world . It is used in the preparation of medicinal oil , dye and ointments also . It is a important herb used in Ayurvedic treatment . Turmeric has many properties and wide range of uses and it has no limits . we cannot think a culinary preparation without using turmeric especially in Tamil culture . Turmeric applied to wounds stops bleeding . Milk and turmeric combined shows to strengthen up our bones. In this post am going to give a recipe about how to make turmeric milk or manjal pal which is easy to prepare and it gives relief from running nose and sore throat . Even though it is a very simple recipe and every mother uses this recipe for their family , I selected to publish it for people who are not aware of this and its benefits . Either sugar or honey anything sweet can be added according to individual preference.
How to make Turmeric milk/Manjal pal/Haldi milk
Ingredients
- Turmeric powder -little less than 1/4 tsp
- Milk - 1 cup
- Honey - 11/2 tsp
- pepper powder - 4 pinches
Instructions
- First boil the milk.
- Then add turmeric powder when it boils.
- Add pepper powder.
- Switch off the stove.
- Now add honey and mix well.
- Serve it hot.
Notes
Can add sugar,palm sugar or any other sweetener you wish.
In olden days they add just turmeric to hot milk and drink.
Addition of pepper is optional.
Almond powder,cashew powder,cardamon powder or any nut powder can be added.
