பிள்ளையார்பட்டி மோதகம் /sweet kozhukattai /Pillayarpatti Mothagam

Ingredients
  

  • Raw rice /Pacharisi - 1 cup

  • Moong dal/pasiparuppu - 1/4 cup

  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup

  • Jaggery powdered - 11/2 cups

  • Water - 21/2 cups

  • Cardamom powder - 3/4 tbsp

  • Pinch of salt

  • Ghee - 2 tsp + some more

Instructions
 

  • 1.Wash rice strain water through a sieve when you touch it with hands some rice will stick to your hands.
    2.Now transfer it to a pan dry roast till rice pops up transfer to a plate to cool.
    3.In the same pan add Pasi paruppu roast till golden and transfer to the same plate and let it cool completely.
    4.Grind it coarsely.
    5.In a pan add powdered jaggery with 21/2 cups water let the jaggery dissolve filter and keep.
    6.In the same pan add little ghee add grated coconut fry a little and to this add jaggery syrup and boil.
    7.When it starts to boil add rice mixture stir continuously keep the flame at medium low.
    8.Now add cardamom powders pinch of salt and ghee.
    9.Stir in well till it forms a single mass now switch off the stove.
    10.Transfer this to a plate and let it cool completely.
    11.Now you can make shapes using achu or simply make shapes with hands and steam it in a steamer for 15-20 minutes.
    12.Take out and serve.

Notes

  • I have used organic jaggery so the colour is little darker.
  • Sweetness added is just perfect.
  • You can even add some dry ginger powder to enhance more flavour.
  • Keep the flame at medium low so that the rice mixture cooks well.
  • You can add some fried cashews to modakam while making the dough itself.
