INGREDIENTS:

Kadalai maavu/bengal gram flour – 1 cup
Rice flour – 1 tbsp
Salt as per taste
Hing/asafoetida – a pinch
Red chilli powder – 11/2tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Raw peanuts – 2 tbsp
Cashews broken – 2 tbsp
Some curry leaves
Oil to fry

METHOD:

2.Take gram flour,rice flour,salt,hing,chilli and turmeric powder in a mixing bowl and mix it well.

kara boondi preparation /spicy crispy kara boondi3.Now add water little by little to a free-flowing batter,the consistency should not be thick and little thinner than dosa batter.

5.You need two perforated ladles one for pushing off the batter and other to drain.
6.The oil should be hot when the batter is poured.
7.Pour the batter on the ladle and gently tap the ladle or you can press to and fro with a spoon.
8.When the shh sound subsides immediately take out and put it in a tissue and repeat the same till batter is finished.

9.Lastly fry cashews,peanuts and lastly the curry leaves in the same oil and drain.
10.Now mix the whole thing nicely and serve.

Notes

Instead of adding baking soda you can add little hot oil to the batter and do this kara boondi. When making boondi don’t keep the ladle too far from the oil or too close. You can add chilli powder at last if not added in the batter it will also be nice. Adding turmeric powder is optional.
